Bowl season is nigh – and that means the unpaid student-athletes get free crap from the bowl organizing committees.
Sports Business Daily breaks down what each bowl is handing out. Here is the Big Ten bowl SWAG:
Minnesota, Meineke Car Care Bowl: Fossil watch, 32-inch flat-screen TV, belt buckle, T-shirt, lapel pin, backpack.
Michigan State, Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl: Gift suite presented by PAC Sports Division, Fossil watch, Ogio Mercur backpack.
Purdue, Heart of Dallas Bowl: Bowl committee said complete gift packages had not been finalized as of press time.
Northwestern, Gator Bowl: Fossil watch, Dome hat, Mercury garment bag and carry-on bag, Jostens ring, football.
Michigan, Outback Bowl: $150 Best Buy gift card, Fossil watch, ring, cap, Outback Steakhouse gift card.
Nebraska, Capital One Bowl: $420 shopping trip to a local Best Buy, Fossil watch.
Wisconsin, Rose Bowl: Gift suite, Fossil watch, Oakley backpack, New Era Thirty9 Thirty cap.
So, who is the big winner? Loser?
Best: Well, it depends on what is in the gift suites for Michigan State and Wisconsin. On the surface, we have to go with Minnesota (TV and a belt buckle!) or Nebraska (the Cornhuskers can buy a TV for $420).
Worst: We have to go with Purdue. The Heart of Dallas Bowl organizers are picking through the cushions to see what they can give the Boilermakers. Short of that, not sure why the Gator Bowl would give football players footballs. I imagine they have ready access to those.
