March 12, 2012

Purdue Hoops

Yep, this is the mascot.

Here are the key facts about Purdue opponent Saint Mary’s (Calif.) in the first round of the NCAA tournament (we refuse to call them second-round games):

Hometown: Moraga, Calif.

Conference: West Coast

Record: 27-5 (14-2)

Nickname: Gaels

Tournament Record: 3-6 in six NCAA appearances (1959, 1989, 1997, 2005, 2008, 2010). Sweet 16 in 2010.

Most notable NBA player: Tom Meschery averaged 12.7 points a game over 10 seasons (1961-71) in the NBA.

Fun Fact: From the school’s website: “The 420-acre campus enjoys a moderate climate which permits yearlong outdoor recreation. Moraga has approximately 16,650 residents, hiking-biking trails, several parks and two shopping centers.” So there’s that.
