National Signing Day: Wisconsin

February 1, 2012

B1G Recruiting

So far, the Badgers have a small number of commitments to join Bret Bielema in Madison.

Wisconsin lost six coaches since the end of the season – leaving coach Bret Bielema with the big job of filling out his coaching staff while holding on to the players the departed guys helped recruit.

How will he do? We’ll see today – National Signing Day!

Here is what is expected to happen for the Badgers (player rankings all via ESPN, with class rankings from Scout.com and comments from Rivals.com, to even things out):

Commits: 12 (click on this number to see which have signed throughout the day!)

Scout.com ranking: No. 61 (subject to change)

Four stars (4): Vince Biegel, Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., No. 15 outside linebacker; Bart Houston, Concord, Calif., No. 15 quarterback; Dan Voltz, Barrington, Ill., No. 19 offensive tackle; and D.J. Singleton, Jersey City, NJ, No. 18 safety.

Three stars (5): Vonte Jackson, Kenosha, Wis., No. 22 running back; Hugs Etienne, Plantation, Fla., No. 31 cornerback; Kyle Dodson, Cleveland Heights, Ohio, No. 81 offensive tackle; Walker Williams, Tacoma, Wash., No. 110 offensive tackle; and Arthur Goldberg, Pittsburgh, No. 110 defensive tackle.

Signing Day update: You can here Bielema discuss his class here. Dodson, who committed to Wisconsin in June, announced today he is instead going to Ohio State.

Summary: The class feels rather thin after the strength at the top. Why? See below.

What they’re saying: “The Badgers got off to a fast start back in the spring, but the loss of six assistant coaches and low scholarship numbers thwarted their momentum down the stretch.” – Rivals.com.
