Good wins: Seven-point win over then-No. 8 Florida and a 22-point dismantling of No. 4 Duke in the Big Ten-ACC Challenge. The latter was perhaps the most dominant game played by a college basketball team so far this season.
Bad losses: The lone loss came at No. 13 Kansas, with Jared Sullinger out with back spasms. The Kansas loss, Florida win and a win at South Carolina are the only games to date Ohio State hasn’t won by double figures.
Leaders: Scoring: Sullinger 16.2, Deshaun Thomas 15.8; Rebounds: Sullinger 9.2, Lenzelle Smith Jr. 5.0; Assists: Aaron Craft 5.5, William Buford 3.5.
Best case scenario: Sullinger – and everyone else – stays healthy and the Buckeyes sweep through the Big Ten at 17-1 and a No. 1 seed in the tournament. If Sullinger is right, they may put up one of those special seasons.
Worst cast scenario: Sullinger’s back continues to give him trouble and the Buckeyes’ relative lack of depth causes them to run into some road trouble (Madison, East Lansing and Bloomington, the most likely suspects) while dropping a game or two they shouldn’t. Still, 13-5 is the absolute worst it can get.
Prediction: 16-2. Big Ten tournament champs. No. 1 seed in the tournament.
