Urban Meyer is developing his coaching staff quickly, with most of the Buckeyes defensive coaches assembled.
Ohio State announced today that Luke Fickell and Everett Withers will be co-defensive coordinators. Everett, who will also be assistant head coach, is a 24-year coaching veteran who was North Carolina’s interim coach after their rough season.
“Everett is extremely well respected across the country,” Meyer said. “I’ve known about him for a number of years and followed his progress as a college and NFL assistant coach. He will be a great fit for this staff, and I think he and Luke are going to work well together as the co-coordinators of our defense.”
In the same release, Meyer announced that a very well known Buckeye also will be staying with the staff: Mike Vrabel will be linebacker coach again. I am very excited to see how Vrabel coaches up Ryan Shazier. This season could be a special one for them both for recognition.
There are three other coaches confirmed to be on the staff. Taver Johnson was named defensive assistant. Stan Drayton will move from wide receiver coach to running backs coach. The final coach to make the staff is a well known one in Tom Herman, who came from Iowa State as a quarterbacks coach as well as an offensive coordinator.
Meyer has been doing a great job and has the expectations high across the country.
