Fickell To Stay With Buckeyes

December 15, 2011

OSU Football

Like at Illinois, the newly installed Ohio State coach offered to let the interim coach stay on the staff in 2012.

Unlike at Illinois, the coach accepted:

Urban Meyer hasn’t quite decided what to call Luke Fickell, at least in terms of a title on the 2012 Ohio State coaching staff.

But Meyer did say yesterday that Fickell will be calling the defensive plays, and he might have a fellow former interim head coach at his side.

In football nomenclature, it would seem to indicate that Fickell will be, in some form or fashion, the defensive coordinator on Meyer’s first coaching staff at OSU.

“He’ll call the defenses,” Meyer said during an interview on WBNS-FM (97.1) yesterday afternoon. “All the other titles in this day and age … I know Luke is not worried about it.”

That’s good news for Fickell, who was thrust into a difficult situation after taking over for Jim Tressel.

As for titles, I think he should demand to be called Secretary of Defense. Or President of Defense.

Something catchy like that.
